Modeling Organizational Resilience in SMEs: A System Dynamics Approach

Resilience is challenging for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), as their structure hinders them from overcoming external disturbances. This article used control to model how these perspectives can lead SMEs equilibrium. We adopted a systemic approach, which addresses organizational complexity via linear modeling. First, using social network analysis (SNA), we revised the understanding of resilience in SME literature, identified groups with similar components, this information feed our model. Second, developed conceptual causal loop diagram, third, simulated scenarios system dynamics. Our results indicate that associated feedforward, buffering, feedback controls critical factors demanding continuous coordination between core operations management mechanisms. A limitation regarding dynamics it models system’s behavior rather than predicting statistically. Even though focus work on context Mexican SMEs, versatility approach may allow application ideas other sectors. help managers academics rethink by restructuring relationships operational strategic units, increasing autonomy, strengthening planning well means. The studies statistical modeling evaluate foster SMEs’ resilience. present contributes area framing problem terms methodology evaluating scenario.
